Sould SMH drop ‘newspaper’ from it title?

This story quotes a website, with no bona fides, which quotes, ‘police sources’.
This is not news, it’s heresay, nothing more. The Herald, for whom I write on a non-paid basis, should be ashamed for re-publishing such drivel from AFP.

Bye bye TV stations

Mr Packer Sn was quoted; “You get one Allan Bond in your life”. Mr Packer was of course referring to the fact that he sold the Nine network to Mr Bond for A$1 Billion and bought it back not so long later for about A$300 Million.

But they days of TV stations or even networks being cash registers are long gone. The producers, the content creators, are the winners now. This post os from my very good friends at The Unoffical Apple Weblog.

Now that cable companies are actually producing qulaity content (SATC, Sopranos et al), and releasing them as podcasts to the world for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, the opportunities for stations to grab cash from advertisers is long gone.

Imagine a world where news bulletins are put together every hour for syndication. No more are you reliant on the 6pm, 7pm, 10pm or later news bully. Your computer has already downloaded the latest news for you to watch at your convenince – not at theirs.

The Wii Exercise Plan

David Pogue of The New York Ttimes agrees with me in this article. Why is no one commenting on Wii being the only game console to get kids’ heart rates above comatose?

My nephew plays xbox for as many hours as his parents let him – and then some. And then some more. And more. Luckily this kid has got skinny genes from his dad so weight is not an issue. Not all his mates are so lucky and the majority of them are porking up.

Be aware – obesity IS the new smoking.

SMH does a Tele

Typically it would be the Telegraph that would take a story from another newspaper and run the questonable reporting of that story as news. In this instance the SMH is bashing the crap out the Telegraph over their reporting of the NSW Young Australian of the Year, a Muslim woman, who was arrested on drugs charges.
The linked article below refers to a blog and references may posts from that blog. The article’s author is reporting/arguing that the Daily Telegraph was full of praise for this yong woman until charges against her were made public during the week. However, it fails to mention that in the same week the SMH’s monthly (sydney) magazine also featured a story about this young woman.
It appears that balanced, honest reporting at Fairfax has become optional in it’s long runing war with the the Telegraph. Of course it’s easy to see why; the Telegraph broke the story on Wednesday – the same day the very expensive (in both production and ad rates) (sydney) magazine hit the newsstands.

Internet Speed

The thing I still don’t get is why ISPs are pushing these fast interent speeds. It’s not like you will be directly connected to the server from which you are pulling files. I have ADSL 2+ at the studio and very few users – 4 max and that’s very rare.

I am in line of the site of the exchange where my DSLAM is installed and as for reaching 24000kbps, forget it. It’s a con. Stay away from it and save your money. Fibre is where it’s at. And thanx to Sol and his amigos that ain’t going to happen for a while.

Some smart developers are doing it themselves; Fern Bay, south of Newcastle is one and Landcom are looking at it for Price Henry at Little Bay in Sydney.

Proof: Telstra is stupid

The most recent ad for the T3 piss your money up against a wall Share Offer has been shot in widescreen, which is great. But then they (their agency or production campany) went and letterboxed it. That is, cut the top and bottom off by adding a thick black strip. The effect is to make the ad look like it’s in widescreen on a standard 3:4 TV. IDIOTS. If you’ve shot it widescreen, just show the thing widescreen. No one with a 3:4 TV appreciates your efforts in trying to fake a widescreen ad.

More proof that your customers are smarter than your management.
